It has been a longtime practice of Unity Moravian to welcome children to the Lord’s Table. As pastor, I do not refuse giving the elements of Communion to children who stand to receive them. By partaking in Holy Communion, we affirm and participate in the continued forgiveness of our sins and fellowship with Christ in the covenant of grace, and we also affirm our unity as a church in the partaking of the Lord’s Supper. Communion is the renewal of our covenant with Christ. It is therefore an important part of our faith and life as Christians.
According to the order of the Moravian Church, baptized children are admitted to Holy Communion after a request of the parents and instruction by the church. To that end, I will be offering an opportunity for children to receive instruction for partaking in Holy Communion. The workshop will bring together kids and their parents for this learning opportunity.
The workshop will occur on Sunday, October 15, 2023, from 4 PM-5:30 PM. Following the workshop, children along with their parents will make the determination about receiving their first Communion. I understand that many children already partake in Holy Communion, but we will celebrate a “first” as a congregation following the workshop.
Please mark your calendars for this special learning time!
